Dermatology

Poikiloderma of Civatte

A condition that mainly affects the sides of the neck and the upper chest. It consists of a combination of diffuse redness, and pigment changes. Similar changes on the neck may be seen in genetic skin conditions such as Rothmund-Thomson syndrome, Bloom syndrome and connective tissue diseases. Similar changes may also be seen in skin that has been treated previously with radiotherapy.

Clinically proven, safe and effective

Poikiloderma of Civatte develops with age, the exact cause is unknown, but contributing factors include fair skin. accumulated sun exposure, photosensitising components of cosmetics and toiletries, especially perfumes, and hormonal factors. Ellipse offers a clinically proven and effective treatment to remove Poikiloderma of Civatte.

How does the Ellipse SWT vascular lesion treatment work?

The Ellipse Selective Waveband Technology treatment works by directing well controlled pulses of light into the upper skin. The light is absorbed by the body's own natural substances - haemoglobin, contained in the red blood cells, and melanin in pigment tissue.
These convert the light energy into heat.  The method of converting light to heat and using it to destroy the target without damaging the surrounding tissue is called Selective Photothermolysis.
The visible light produced by the Ellipse SWT systems is carefully controlled to produce the correct pulse length and right amount of energy to destroy the vessel. Best results are obtained on patients who have light to medium skin.
