What if you Don’t Want Surgery?

Here at Ailesbury Clinic, we often see patients who have been told to use:

  • Stronger anti perspirants.
  • Absorbant pads and insoles.

Or simply change their clothes and socks twice daily or more – which is inconvenient, time consuming and expensive.

We find patients are often told by their physician that the only other option is surgery to remove the sweat glands.

We find most people understandably want to avoid this drastic and invasive measure.

Thank fully there are other solutions to this distressing condition.

This step involves a comprehensive consultation. This includes:

  • Taking the history of your hyperhidrosis.
  • Determining if you are suitable for treatment.
  • Structured treatment plan.

We always allow plenty of time to discuss any questions and queries you may have regarding your specific concern and treatment plan options.

2) Botox – Pioneered by our very own Dr Patrick Treacy

Dr Patrick Treacy was one of the first doctors in the world to use Botox for sweating in 1998 and presented his research in London in 2001. He identified a simpler method of treatment doing away with the need for iodine, starch and clingfilm which were prevalent at the time.

This can be an effective option to dramatically reduce excess sweating the palm of the hands, feet and armpits.

3) Treatment – miraDry – Latest Technology in Hyperhidrosis Treatment

MiraDry is an exciting development in the treatment of Hyperhidrosis and is the first and only device cleared by the FDA is the USA for Hyperhidrosis treatment.

It uses a precisely controlled electromagnetic energy in the armpit for example, heating and eliminating the sweat glands.

Long Lasting Results

In the body sweat glands do not grow back, so the effects of the treatment are long lasting.

Two treatments are generally required for most patients. Some people do find that one treatment provides an adequate reduction in the amount of sweat produced.

Our highly knowledgeable team at Ailesbury Clinic, will advise you what will be the best plan for your skin going forwards.

How Does it Work?

Botox acts by safely blocking the nerve signals that control your sweat glands. These tend to be over active in hyperhidrosis. This can be used on the underarms, hands and feet.

A numbing agent can be used before the injections themselves to reduce any discomfort.

The sweat produced in your armpit is produced by sweat glands. The electromagnetic energy used by the miraDry device eliminates the sweat glands. These glands do not grow back so the dramatic reduction in sweat is permanent.
