Background
Androgenic Alopecia (AGA) also known as male and female pattern baldness is the most common cause of hair loss in the world today. It is most prevalent in Caucasian males affecting roughly 80%.
AGA has a number of causes and is widely agreed to be multi-factorial; hereditary, environmental, dietary & hormonal. Effectively hair follicles growth cycles reduce in time and the hair produced in these cycles becomes shorter and thinner. However, the follicle remains less or completely inactive within the scalp.
CALECIM® is a novel cosmetic product formulated from proteins and exosomes naturally secreted by Cord Lining Stem Cells. The aim of this study is to review whether these proteins are able to stimulate improved hair growth from underactive or dormant hair follicles in males suffering from AGA.
A total of 5 male patients with AGA who were 3-4 on the Norwood scale of hair loss were selected.
All potential participants had blood tests and were screened for; vitamin deficiencies, Iron deficiency and over or under-active thyroids. Any patients that showed any of these indications were not included in the study. Also, no smokers were included in the study.
Once patients were selected initial photographs were taken before the first treatment.
Treatments were carried out each week with the second set of photos taken at 6 weeks, so there was a total of 6 treatments on each patient
