What Is A Chemical peel?

A chemical peel is the application of an acid to the skin to achieve a controlled burn to the top layers of skin. Chemical peels are used to remove fine lines, especially around the mouth small scars discolorations such as freckles or liver spots areas of sun damaged skin and spots of precancerous keratoses.

Peels can be applied to the whole face or to an isolated area, such as the upper lip. A full-face peel is usually done as a separate procedure before or after a face lift or eyelid surgery. However, if only a small area is being treated, the peel may be done at the same time as the surgical procedure. Chemical peels cannot be done around the eyes.

The type and concentration of acid controls the depth of the burn used to achieve superficial, medium, and deep peels.

Superficial peels are produced using alphahydroxy acids (AHA) (glycolic, lactic, and fruit acids). AHA peels are used to treat rough, dry skin and improve texture. These acids can be mixed with a bleaching agent to correct uneven pigmentation.

Medium peels are most often done using trichloroacetic acid (TCA). TCA peels are used to treat fine wrinkles and superficial blemishes.

Deep peels are produced using carbolic acid (phenol). It is used to treat coarse wrinkles, blotches caused by sun, birth-control pills, or aging, and precancerous growths. Phenol is almost always used only on the face. It may cause scarring on the neck or other areas of the body.

The Perfect Peel founds itself on a key anti-aging ingredient never before used in a peel: Glutathione. Glutathione is the ultimate antioxidant, penetrating deep into the cellular level of the skin to fight oxidant damage and is the anti-aging answer to premature wrinkling. Our bodies naturally produce glutathione but as we age, our levels deplete due to sun exposure, air pollutants, environmental stress and the aging process itself. Glutathione is also proven to reverse melanin’s metabolism, lightening dark pigmentations.

The Perfect Peel blends glutathione, kojic acid, TCA, retinoic acid, salicylic acid, phenol, and a blend of minerals and vitamins, including vitamin C. Kojic acid is a powerful lightening agent and proven to increase collagen and elastin production, resulting in skin that is brighter and tighter. TCA, phenol and retinoic acid reduce wrinkles and correct pigment problems, while salicylic acid exfoliates the skin and reduces inflammation. Alone the ingredients are powerful, but in combination they produce results that are astonishing.

To follow The Perfect Peel, you are given an individual home treatment pack. This pack contains retinol wipes and a vitamin C moisturiser to assist the peeling process and enhance your results.

Chemical peeling is one of the most popular and effective aesthetics treatments, helping patients rejuvenate and improve the overall health and appearance of the dermis. However, not all chemical peels are created equally: from the “at-home” high-street, single-active serum, to a medically-administered, medium-depth clinical peel, it can be unclear what sets an “ok” peel apart from an “incredible” peeling system. Chemical peels are generally classified as superficial, medium or deep, depending on the depth of penetration after application. A number of peeling agents are capable of achieving a range of penetration depths, depending on their percentage and method of application. The Perfect Peel is a pioneer in the blended peel market, with a spectacular formula that works in synergy to maximise outcomes and minimise unwanted side-effects. The treatment uses a blend of chemicals to create a controlled wound to the skin. This initiates a process of peeling and healing, which in turn causes the skin to be visibly refreshed.
Day1 is the day the peel treatment was applied, the area will feel tight and may appear darker than usual. The peel solution needs to stay on the area for at least 6 hours- so no washing, touching or rubbing the skin! Also, do not apply any make-up, skincare, lotions, ointments or creams etc. You don’t want to do anything that will add moisture to the skin and potentially inhibit the peeling process. On the evening of Day 1, you can wash your face very gently using only water, and pat dry. Or you can forego washing entirely. We will not judge. Around 15 minutes before bedtime use one of the post-peel towelettes (provided in the Home Kit) and vigorously apply it to your face. This will help to activate the peel solution further and is an essential part of the peeling process. It may mildly sting and irritate, but that is completely normal. Some discomfort and irritation is considered normal. Remember, this is a medical chemical peel. If extreme, or you are at all concerned, please contact the practitioner who performed the treatment. Avoid sun exposure, excessive sweating, saunas or heavy exercise during the peel process. On Day 2, do not apply anything to your skin! Whilst it may be tempting, it will really affect your results. This also includes SPF. Follow the same procedure in the evening, using the post-peel towelette. PRO TIP Alleviate stinging, discomfort or itchiness: apply a cold compress against the irritated area; take ordinary pain relief tablets; take antihistamine tablets to help with itching.
Generally today is peel day! When you’ll start to see the skin peel away in sheets! This is the hard part, you must not rub, pick or pull on the peeling skin, let the process occur naturally. At this stage, messing may result in scarring. Gently wash (don’t scrub) and pat dry the treated area morning and night, and apply The Perfect Peel Moisturiser as needed, supplied in the Home Kit. A sunscreen of at least SPF 30 should be applied every 2 hours in sun exposure. PRO TIP Peeling skin can be removed by trimming with small nail scissors.
The peeling process is generally complete, although some mild sloughing, flaking and redness may still be occurring in some treated areas. You can now resume your normal skin care products, unless otherwise advised by your medical professional. If the treated area becomes or remains irritates, wait until the sensitivity subsides. We always recommend prolonging and enhancing your results by using The Perfect Skincare range. Ask your practitioner about our prescription-only products. Continue to protect your skin with at least SPF 30 daily.
